Brissago Islands

1,700 plants from all over the world

Get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of plants, full of exotic scents and marvellous colours.

Baroness Antoinette de Saint-Léger transformed Isola Grande into a magnificent exotic garden in 1885, and in 1949 the Brissago islands became the botanical gardens of the canton of Ticino. Around 1,700 plants from all over the world grow here, above all sub-tropical flora. This year the gardens are celebrating their 60th anniversary, and a special exhibition on the history of the islands is being held to mark the occasion. It’s well worth a visit!
